What do You Think About Future
Springbrook Community Needs?
The Springbrook Community Association would like to
clearly identify community needs in order to plan for future
facilities and programs as well as to develop working relationships
with other groups including Red Deer County, Bear Training Centre,
Alberta Hockey School, Harvard Historical Aviation Society, Central
Alberta Regional Trails Society, Malibu Developments, Harvard Park
Business Centre, Division 3 Recreation and Culture Board, FCSS and
the Town of Penhold.
The Association has raised over $100,000 over the past several
years, primarily for a future community centre, walking and bicycle
trails in the community, park enhancements and overall
beautification of the community. Several initiatives are already
underway to accomplish these goals.
Our primary source of revenue has been volunteers working bingos
(monthly) and casinos (every 1-1/2 years or so). Other funding
sources are being explored for specific programs and projects.
Most recreational facilities currently in the community are
privately-owned including the ice rink, the gymnasium, fitness
centre, the former bowling alley, the former theatre, the
out-of-service outdoor pool (which requires several hundred thousand
dollars to rehabilitate) and meeting rooms. Facilities owned by Red
Deer County include the sports fields, municipal reserve along the
creek, two of the playgrounds, the all-purpose pad (operated by the
community association) and the fire hall.
Red Deer County has several studies underway that will have an
impact on Springbrook, including the Open Spaces Master Plan
(including trail development and preservation of natural areas), the
Recreation Needs Study (to determine what facilities are needed in
the county), the Springbrook Heritage Urban Design Plan (to
determine future land use in Springbrook and to preserve the
community's heritage), the Transit Needs Study (to determine the
feasibility of regular bus service between the airport, Gasoline
Alley and Red Deer) and the Springbrook Gasoline Alley Major Area
Structure Plan. Your association has been involved in all of these
studies.
The association would like to thank those who responded to our first
survey. It was very useful in the initial phase of determining what
the community wants if money were no object. Now, we want to
determine what degree of commitment there is in terms of paying for
programs and volunteering.
You can fill out the survey below or you can
print out the survey.
There is also one in the current issue of the Springbrook Babble.
