Infrastructure Construction to Start April 27
Getting
around in Springbrook will get even more challenging on April 27 as
construction starts on Phase 2 of infrastructure replacement being done
by Pidherney's Trucking. Tamarack Boulevard from Oak to Pine and Oak
Street from Tamarack to Willow are scheduled, weather permitting, to be
the first streets to be affected for storm sewer and ditch work. Pine
Street and Willow Crescent work is scheduled to start May 4. Maple
Crescent work should start June 4 and Tamarack Boulevard from Oak to
Airport Road should start July 14. Underground work is scheduled to be
completed by August 7 followed by landscaping and seeding. Paving is
expected to be done between August 15 and September 15. Meanwhile, Phase
3 work in the Harvard Park area is scheduled to commence May 11 by
Northside Construction with underground work scheduled to be completed
by July 13, followed by landscaping and seeding. Paving will be done
during the same time period as the older residential area. Needless to
say, this will impact both residents and the summer cadets. The county
is setting up a liason office at the fire hall to assist residents in
coping with the inconveniences expected during the construction period.

Penhold 21 Day Challenge Very Successful
On March 31, the town of Penhold celebrated this year's successful
conclusion of the 21 Days to a Healthier U Active Living Challenge. 16
teams, made up of 80 people exercised for a total of 70,011 minutes,
which is equivalent to almost 1,200 hours. This was the town's third
year doing such an event, but the first time on their own. Previously,
they had joined with Red Deer's annual challenge, Rise Up Red Deer. The
theory behind the event is that it takes 21 days to form a habit and
that once established, would carry on into the future. Prizes were
awarded for the most creative team name, team with the most minutes,
individual with the most minutes, most improved team over the period,
and a draw from all participants.

Economic Slowdown Delays Malibu Housing
Expansion
Red
Deer County council approved a one-year delay of the fifth phase of the
Malibu Communities subdivision housing development east of the older
residential area of Springbrook yesterday. The previous approval for the
78 lots was due to expire on May 20. The project's first phase is
basically complete but there are still lots available in the next three
phases so the company has decided to hold off for awhile. Although the
economy has slowed down, it hasn't stopped so the developers are
confident that the delay is temporary.
