Highway 2A Upgrade
Between Penhold and Innisfail Under Way
There's some short term pain for long term gain on Highway 2A between
Penhold and Innisfail. After several years of motorists waiting for the
upgrade of the deteriorating and narrow highway, construction has begun
to bring the road up to current primary highway standards. However, it
also means detours on country roads until the end of April during the
initial phase of the reconstruction. Construction will continue
throughout the spring and summer with some delays and possibly further
detours.

Springbrook Family Winter
FunFest a Huge Success
With
temperatures hovering around zero to 2 degrees above Celsius, sunny
skies and no wind, the weather was perfect for the Springbrook Family
Day Winter FunFest at the Oak St. turnaround outdoor rink. An estimated
200 people took advantage of the opportunity, at least half children,
with horse and wagon rides, a children's colouring contest, both indoor
and outdoor skating and refreshments (hot dogs and hot chocolate).
The
horse and wagon, supplied by Heritage Ranch near Red Deer, was a
particular success with each of the approximately ten rides completely
full. The event was organized by the Events Committee of the Springbrook
Community Association, chaired by Cheryl Coleman with Simone Heck,
Darcie Phillips, Rob Manz and Nicole Wapple.
Ice Popular at Outdoor Springbrook Skating Rink
Since
the ice was installed at the Oak St. turnaround all purpose pad several
days ago, several people have enjoyed skating and hockey practice. The
facility was particularly popular at the Winter FunFest today. Provision
of the ice was made possible primarily by the efforts of
Phil Heck of the Springbrook Community Association, Phil Wegner of Dean
Allison Bobcat and Landscaping and Ron Smart of the Red Deer County
Volunteer Fire Department.February 16, 2008

Association Board Reviews Negotiations for Lease of
Theatre
The
Board of Directors of the Springbrook Community Association reviewed the
current negotiations with Trinidad Drilling for the lease of the theatre
in the Bear Training Centre for use as a community drop-in and activity
centre. There are a few issues that need further negotiation but it is
hoped that an agreement can be reached soon to allow the association to
start using the facility as early as March 1. Meanwhile, a proposal has
been sent to Red Deer County to request a grant to cover part of the
cost of the lease. Originally, it was expected that the proposal would
go before Red Deer County Council in March but the request has been
pushed up to February 19.
