County Looking to Hire Springbrook FCSS Worker
Red Deer County is seeking a Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) District Community Worker to provide service to the hamlet of Springbrook for about ten hours per week. They want to find a Springbrook or area resident who is knowledgeable about the community, its resources and needs. Working preventively, the District Community Worker assists individuals and families to access services, locally and in Red Deer, and facilitates the development of local programs.

County Wants to Expropriate McKenzie Land for Drainage Solution
Red Deer County plans to expropriate a 6-by-45 metre strip of right-of-way in the McKenzie subdivision south of McKenzie Road to help solve a drainage problem that surfaced this year as a result of the higher than normal water table. The county wants to bury a drainage pipe under the land to channel water to an existing wetland. The owner of the property has refused to grant an easement. The subdivision land is generally low and flat and housing development in the area has generally cut off the natural drainage patterns.

Springbrook Community Association Sets Priorities

community centreA paved trail along the creek on the municipal reserve connecting to the future Trans Canada Trail north and south, a multi-function community centre and an improved entrance to the community were chosen as the association's highest priorities. It is hoped that construction of the trail can be started in the spring as well as initial planning for the community centre. schoolThere was also considerable discussion on the need for schools, infrastructure rehabilitation, proposed county initiatives and the possibility of a high speed rail terminal at the airport. A representative of Red Deer County will be asked to attend the next meeting. Jodi Smith of the Harvard Historical Aviation Society presented some ideas about activities for community youth. In addition, decisions were made on repairs to the multi-purpose pad and appointments to the events and recreation committees.
