County Looking to Hire
Springbrook FCSS Worker
Red Deer County is seeking a Family & Community Support Services (FCSS)
District Community Worker to provide service to the hamlet of
Springbrook for about ten hours per week. They want to find a
Springbrook or area resident who is knowledgeable about the community,
its resources and needs. Working preventively, the District Community
Worker assists individuals and families to access services, locally and
in Red Deer, and facilitates the development of local programs.

County Wants to
Expropriate McKenzie Land for Drainage Solution
Red Deer County plans to expropriate a 6-by-45 metre strip of
right-of-way in the McKenzie subdivision south of McKenzie Road to help
solve a drainage problem that surfaced this year as a result of the
higher than normal water table. The county wants to bury a drainage pipe
under the land to channel water to an existing wetland. The owner of the
property has refused to grant an easement. The subdivision land is
generally low and flat and housing development in the area has generally
cut off the natural drainage patterns.

Springbrook Community
Association Sets Priorities
The
Springbrook Community Association Board of Directors set its capital
priorities at its orientation meeting tonight.
A
paved trail along the creek on the municipal reserve connecting to the
future Trans Canada Trail north and south, a multi-function community
centre and an improved entrance to the community were chosen as the
association's highest priorities. It is hoped that construction of the
trail can be started in the spring as well as initial planning for the
community centre.
There
was also considerable discussion on the need for schools, infrastructure
rehabilitation, proposed county initiatives and the possibility of a
high speed rail terminal at the airport. A representative of Red Deer
County will be asked to attend the next meeting. Jodi Smith of the
Harvard Historical Aviation Society presented some ideas about
activities for community youth. In addition, decisions were made on
repairs to the multi-purpose pad and appointments to the events and
recreation committees.
