Short Flight Golf
Course Approved for Bunker Site
Conditional approval was given today by Red Deer County for a short
flight 9-hole golf course on a 16-acre parcel along Highway 2A that
includes the former bunker site at the entrance to Springbrook. The
project includes a club house, maintenance/equipment shed, driving range
and 150-stall parking lot. The golf course would use special golf balls
that are lighter than normal and therefore don't go as far reducing the
chance of errant balls going onto the highway. About a month ago, the
County rejected a similar proposal that had included a large RV storage
facility.
Provincial Schools for Tomorrow Plan Includes New
Local Schools
Alberta Education released its 5-year school infrastructure plan called
'Schools for Tomorrow' today with reference to building several area
schools. Although highest priority in the Chinooks Edge School Division
was given to a new K-8 elementary school in Sylvan Lake and expanding
the K-12 Carstairs school, top of the list for additional new schools is
a K-4 Springbrook elementary modular school. Next in line is the
replacement of the K-12 River Glen School that will likely be built
between Red Deer and Penhold, possibly in or near Springbrook. After
that is a K-3 elementary school in Penhold, followed by a K-6 elementary
core school in Springbrook. Also on the list are two schools in new
towns within the division.
Springbrook Housing Projects Proceed
Over the last several days, two housing projects have made progress. The
first of 36 single family houses are under construction in Phase 1 of
the Malibu development east of the current hamlet. Phases 2 and 3 have
already been approved by the County and site work is expected to proceed
soon. Meanwhile site preparation work has commenced on the next phase of
the Harvard Park residential subdivision on the north side of the
hamlet. The site plan approved by the County several months ago
indicates 61 lots will be created. For a map of the Malibu development -
