Waskasoo Rec Board Halloween Supper and Dance
Huge Success
The Waskasoo Recreation and Culture Association Board held its annual
Halloween supper and dance tonight at the Harvard Park Centre in
Springbrook with a sold out supper, dance and childrens party. The
majority of people attending were dressed in costumes for the family
event with a large number of door prizes. The Waskasoo Association
represents an area from Red Deer to Penhold and from Highway QE2 to the
Red Deer River. Springbrook residents make up about 40% of the total in
that area.

Portion of Gasoline Alley Removed from Area Structure Plan
Red Deer County has proceeded to remove the westernmost portion of the
South Hills Area Structure Plan that is not included in the
Intermunicipal Development Plan from the ASP. The area removed is west
of Scott Drive in West Gasoline Alley that is proposed as a residential
area called Liberty Crossing. The move eliminates the city's ability to
dispute the development under the IDP. Council also rezoned the area to
a Direct Control District. A number of plans developed by the County
have been stalled due to the city initiating disputes under the IDP.

New Springbrook Fire Hall Officially Opens
The
new $1.02 million, 6,000 sq. ft. Springbrook fire station held its
official grand opening today. A hose cutting ceremony, flag raising,
awards to volunteer fire fighters, speeches from Red Deer County
representative Reimer Poth and MLA Luke Ouelette, an open house to tour
the facility and equipment and free hot dogs and cake all contributed to
the occasion.
The
new location is closer to the airport and the main road into Springbrook.
The facility includes five truck bays, an RCMP interview room, a
training/meeting room and an undeveloped second floor. It replaces the
old fire hall built by the military which was about half the size,
located farther from the airport and had problems with heating and
mould.

RV Storage and Golf Course at Springbrook
Rejected by County
A proposal to build a short-flight, nine-hole golf course and RV storage
facility along Highway 2A near the entrance to Springbrook on land that
once housed the military bunker was rejected by Red Deer County
yesterday. The biggest concern was the RV storage facility that was not
considered an appropriate use of highway frontage adjacent to the main
entrance of the hamlet.
