Penhold Trail Clears Two More Hurdles
Red Deer County has agreed to support the route east of the CPR tracks
on the old Highway 2A right of way, recommended by Penhold Lions Club
and Central Alberta Regional Trails Society as part of the Trans Canada
Trail network. Although the Lions Club will take responsibility for
getting the trail built, the County agreed to take legal responsibility
for the trail. These two agreements clear two hurdles requested by
Alberta Transportation for final approval. The committee is waiting to
hear back from Alberta Transportation. The trail will tie in with trails
proposed for Springbrook and the rebuilding of Range Road 280 from
Springbrook to C & E Trail (32 St.)

Airport Seeks $16 Capital
Upgrade
Expanding the terminal, lengthening runways and upgrading water and
sewer infrastructure are all part of a $16 million plan to modernize the
Regional Red Deer Airport. Authority representatives will be meeting
with provincial officials soon to request the one time capital funding
to allow for more and larger aircraft and improved service. The Airport
is currently negotiating with carriers to provide scheduled passenger
service east and west of Red Deer. Peace Air provides service north and
south presently and has recently added direct service to Grande Prairie.
