Red Deer County Open Houses Get Public Input on Plans
Monday's open houses at Red Deer County Centre were the last of several similar events in various parts of the County over the past week. About 200 people attended the displays about the proposed Land Use Bylaw, Municipal Development Plan, the Springbrook Gasoline Alley Area Structure Plan and a proposed Redistribution of Electoral Boundaries within the County.

Springbrook Penhold Trail Clears Two More Hurdles
Red Deer County has agreed to support the route east of the CPR tracks on the old Highway 2A right of way, recommended by Penhold Lions Club and Central Alberta Regional Trails Society as part of the Trans Canada Trail network. Although the Lions Club will take responsibility for getting the trail built, the County agreed to take legal responsibility for the trail. These two agreements clear two hurdles requested by Alberta Transportation for final approval. The committee is waiting to hear back from Alberta Transportation. The trail will tie in with trails proposed for Springbrook and the rebuilding of Range Road 280 from Springbrook to C & E Trail (32 St.)

Airport Seeks $16 Capital Upgrade

Expanding the terminal, lengthening runways and upgrading water and sewer infrastructure are all part of a $16 million plan to modernize the Regional Red Deer Airport. Authority representatives will be meeting with provincial officials soon to request the one time capital funding to allow for more and larger aircraft and improved service. The Airport is currently negotiating with carriers to provide scheduled passenger service east and west of Red Deer. Peace Air provides service north and south presently and has recently added direct service to Grande Prairie.

Red Deer County Proceeding With Public Open Houses
Even though the Public Hearing that was scheduled for March 21 has been postponed as a result of the City launching a dispute mechanism, information open houses are proceeding as planned. An informal public open house on the new Municipal Development Plan, the new Land Use By-Law and the Springbrook Gasoline Alley Area Structure Plan will be held March 20 at the Red Deer County Centre between 2 and 6:30 pm.  On the same day and at the same location, a public meeting will be held at 7 pm about the restructuring of the divisional boundaries in the County.
