Plans to Construct Trans Canada Trail Section
in Spring
The Penhold Lions Club will soon be meeting with representatives
of the Springbrook Community Association and the Waskasoo Recreation
Board to co-ordinate the building of the section of the Trans Canada
Trail between Springbrook and Penhold. The Club hopes to construct the 4
km. section during the spring of 2006 on the old Hwy. 2A right of way
parallel to the CPR railway tracks. Future Red Deer County plans include
building the Springbrook to Red Deer section along a new road connecting
Springbrook with the C & E Trail just west of the County building.

Recent Developments include Bar and Grill and
Fire Hall Construction
A few recent developments in the Springbrook area include the
opening of the Landing Zone Bar and Grill next to the Bear Training
Centre, the construction start on the new fire hall and repaving of Hwy.
2A between McKenzie Road and Penhold.

Community Association Discusses Future and
Elects New Board
On Oct. 3 the Springbrook Community Association held its
Annual General Meeting at the Bear Training Centre with about 20 in
attendance. Several items were discussed about the future of Springbrook
as well as future projects that the Association might take on.
Suggestions included putting a roof over the all purpose pad, creating
an attractive sign at the entrance to Springbrook and developing a
community centre in the new area identified by the County as a future
park and sports fields grounds in the proposed
Area Structure Plan. Ideas were also discussed about creating a
better awareness in the community of accomplishments and plans of the
Association. The new executive includes Darcie Phillips as President,
Keith King as Vice-President, Tara Lind as Secretary and Jason Winters
as Treasurer. Other Board members include Cathy Fowler, Randy Struss,
Scott Key, John Jenkins, Travis Moody, Paul Pettypiece.

Canola Oil Lubricant Plant Announced for
Springbrook
Agro Technologies International is poised to build a canola
processing plant at the Red Deer Regional Airport. Working with Red Deer
College it would formulate environmentally friendly lubricating agents
suitable for a variety of industries. The plant worth around $1 million
could be operational by next summer. It could prove to be a catalyst for
a supportive technical park.
